How to get the most out of group fitness classes

It’s normal to get some nerves when you’re getting ready to start a new group fitness class. You’re probably not sure what the instructor will be like, and you might be nervous working out with a group of people you don’t know. At Paru Fitness, we want you to be comfortable working out with a group because there are some amazing benefits of enjoying fitness classes. To help you get started, we’ve put together a few things you can do to get the most out of group fitness classes.

Be on time

The last thing you want to do with any fitness class is come running in at the last minute to join the warmup. One of the best things you can do for yourself to benefit from group fitness classes is to be on time. You’ll have a chance to settle in with a comfortable spot with the rest of the group and feel out the vibe. You’ll also have a chance to go through the full warmup routine, so you don’t get hurt.

Be prepared

It doesn’t matter if you’re going to a fitness class or doing an individual workout; it’s essential to be prepared. Make sure that you have enough water, are wearing the right shoes, and have any other equipment that you might need. Being prepared for your fitness class will make it much easier to get the most out of your workout.

Push yourself

It’s easy to hang out in the back of a group fitness class and go through the motions. You might be self-conscious about some of the movements or not want to work too hard. The best thing you can focus on is the workout and pushing yourself. Everybody has a personal fitness level, so you might not be able to do some of the moves in the class as well as others in the class. However, you can still push your limits, so you continue to improve. Do your best, and you’ll get more comfortable the more you attend.

Enjoy the group

One of the great things about group fitness classes is that you have other people encouraging you to do your best. Take in the positivity and enjoyment of everyone in the room so you can feel a part of the group. Take some tie to make friends and get to know the instructor, and you’ll look forward to attending each class, which makes it easier to go.

Don’t compare yourself to others

Everybody has their own fitness level. Don’t compare yourself to how others in the class are doing with the workout. Whether you’re starting on a fitness journey, have been at it for a month, or feel like you’re an expert, there’s always going to be somebody who is more advanced. Rather than making you feel discouraged, use it as motivation to get to new heights.

Do your research

Not every fitness class is right for you. It’s possible that there are classes that are far too advanced for your level, or you might find that you simply don’t enjoy the format of the class. Look into various classes at your gym to find what fits your fitness level and goals.
